Abstract Ba 5 Sb 4 crystallizes in the orthorhombic system (Puma) with a = 901.2 ± 0.3 pm, b = 1782.3 ± 0.6 pm, c = 904.1 ± 0.3 pm. The compound is isotypic to the Gd 5 Si 4 structure type and is to classify as a Zintl-phase
