Reduction of mutual coupling between closely-packed antenna elements with split ring resonator (SRR)

Abstract

This paper presents a new method to reduce mutual coupling between two closely-packed planar inverted F antennas (PIFAs) with split ring resonator (SRR). A SRR structure has been inserted between the two elements. The design model has been analyzed and optimized with the commercial software package HFSS 11.0, thus a mutual coupling reduction of more than 6 dB was achieved at resonant frequency. The method is also verified by fabricated model and measurement has been carried out by using E8363B Vector Network Analyzer of Agilent. The experimental results agree very well with simulated results.
