Novel urchin-like Fe2O3 hollow microstructures were synthesized via a simple ligand-assisted hydrothermal route, without any templates in the reaction system. X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), N2 adsorption−desorption, and magnetic measurements were carried out to characterize the composition, morphology, adsorption, and magnetic properties. Various experimental parameters such as concentration, temperature, and reaction time were discussed in detail to obtain their influences on the morphology of Fe2O3 microstructures.
