Abstract All participants in the information community use the Web as a tool, and we all need to understand the power of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and how it can help us obtain our personal and professional goals. This preconference program offered this opportunity to all those interested in a technical services emphasis. It introduced participants to the basics of HTML with hands-on instruction in standard text formatting and layout conventions. Covering the basic skills of tagging and formatting, creation of links and lists, attendees were able to create a Web document which they could use in their own library technical services departments.
