Abstract Abstract The complexes C5H5Rh(CNR)PMe3 (1 : R = CH3; 2: R = t-C4H9) and C5H5Rh(C2H4)CN-t-C4H9 (3) are prepared from [(C2H4)2RhCl]2 via [(C2H4)(CNR)RhCl]2 and [(PMe3)(CNR)RhCl]2 as intermediates followed by subsequent reaction with TlC5H5. C5H5Rh(CNMe)PMe3 reacts with methyl iodide in pentane to give [C5H5RhCH3(CNMe)-PMe3]I (4) which on heating in acetone forms the acetimidoyl complex C5H5Rh[C(CH3)=NMe](PMe3)I (5). The analogous reaction of 3 with CH3 I produces primarily the ionic compound [C5H5RhCH3(C2H4)-CN-t-C4H9]I (7a) which smoothly reacts in acetone to give C5H5RhCH3(CN-t-C4H9)I (8).
