Microstructure, Magnetic Properties, and Corrosion Behaviour of the Copper-Doped NdFeB Sintered Magnets

Abstract

The effect of Cu addition to the three-component NdFeB sintered permanent magnet on the phase structure, magnetic properties, and corrosion behaviour is analyzed. It is found that this addition changes the composition of the grain-boundary Nd-rich phase to NdCu2, NdFe, and eutectic phases. The latter two phases deteriorate the hard magnetic properties due to a decrease of isolation and decoupling of the Nd2Fe14B grains and a decrease of the volume fraction of the hard magnetic Nd2Fe14B phase. The corrosion resistance of the NdFeB magnet in acid solution and under conditions corresponding to the industrial atmosphere is improved by addition of this element. Der Einfluß von Cu-Zusatz zum Dreikomponenten NdFeB gesinterten Hartmagneten auf das Phasengefüge, die magnetischen Eigenschaften und das Korrosionsverhalten wird untersucht. Es wird festgestellt, daß dieser Zusatz die Zusammensetzung der Nd-reichen Korngrenzenphase zu NdCu2, NdFe und eutektischen Phasen ändert. Die beiden letzteren Phasen setzen die hartmagnetischen Eigenschaften herab wegen der abnehmenden Abstände zwischen den Nd2Fe14B Körnern und einer Zunahme des Volumenanteils der nicht-ferromagnetischen Phasen. Die Korrosionsbeständigkeit in sauren Lösungen und in industrieller Atmosphäre wird durch den Cu-Zusatz verbessert.
