As regards the quality of human resources, a turbulent business environment presents, at times, a bewildering array of fundamental challenges. Organisations can no longer cope by making small incremental adjustments to existing practices. An aggregation of major challenges, arising all at once is forcing a fundamental rethink of human resources roles and responsibilities. The article examines the findings of a survey initiated by the British Institute of Management and Aston Business School concerning the thoughts and intentions of those at or close to the top of major UK organisations.
