Protecting delay-sensitive traffic transmission against flooding attacks in smart grid networks

Abstract

Smart grid is a technology converging IT and power systems to efficiently manage the current power systems and provide the advanced features. The main traffics are categorized into metering and management traffics and the characteristic of management traffic is event driven and delay-sensitive. In this paper, we design a defending mechanism of the delay-sensitive traffic against flooding attack. The proposed mechanism is conducted by two phases according to the dense degree of received traffic in access router: deferring the metering report and blocking the traffic of compromised smart meter. The simulation results show the defense performance against flooding attacks.
