Protection Path-based Hitless Spectrum Defragmentation in Elastic Optical Networks: Shared Backup Path Protection

Abstract

We propose two protection path-based spectrum defragmentation algorithms to improve the spectrum utilization for an elastic optical network with shared backup path protection (SBPP). Results show that the proposed algorithms can significantly improve spectrum efficiency compared to the case without defragmentation.
