Strain hardening in Andrade creep

Alan Cottrell

Year: 1996 Journal:   Philosophical Magazine Letters Vol: 74 (5)Pages: 375-379   Publisher: Taylor & Francis

Abstract

An essential condition for Andrade creep is a small coefficient of strain hardening, such as occurs in easy glide. However, the classical studies established this creep in fcc polycrystals with no easy glide. It will be shown that the strain hardening in these was nevertheless sufficiently reduced by thermally assisted dynamical recovery. Several aspects of their Andrade creep are explained on this basis.
