Five-band printed monopole antenna for mobile phone application

Abstract

This paper designs a monopole antenna on a commonly used FR4 substrate with width of 0.8 mm. The overall dimensions of the proposed antenna are 45×94.5 mm 2 , which can be easily applied in today's mobile devices. With small size of radiation element (45×12 mm 2 ), the proposed antenna consists of three resonant paths that operate three resonant bands. By carefully adjusting the length of antenna paths and gap between antenna paths, the 6-dB operation bands (824-1000 MHz and 1710-2182 MHz) can be applied in GSM850, GSM900, PCS, DCS, and UMTS application bands. Both simulated and measured results are presented and discussed.
