Design of a circularly polarized conformal microstrip antenna with CPW-fed

Abstract

Aiming at the advantages of conformal antenna, a circularly polarized conformal microstrip antenna with coplanar waveguide fed is presented. The performance of conformal and non-conformal antenna is compared, and the influence of antenna carrier's radius to the antenna's performance is analyzed on condition that the antenna's dimension is unchangeable. The measured and simulated results show that when carrier's radius is large, return loss of the conformal antenna changes very little while axial ratio bandwidth and gain decreases; when the antenna carrier's radius decreases, the resonant frequency increases while axial ratio become worse and gain decreases. The study results could provide a technical support for the design of conformal antenna.
