Las percepciones de amenazas y de seguridad entre Europa y el mundo árabe

Abstract

This article analyzes one of the most essential aspects of security in the Mediterranean: threat perceptions. It is argued that their identification is closely linked to a series of subjective factors and that one of the main differences in threat perceptions lies in the different degrees of development, both economic and political, that exists between both shores of the Mediterranean. Applying this security concept, the threats perceived on each side of the Mediterranean basin are studied. Once the threats and risks are determined, the feasibility of the listed threats, is examined. It is concluded that it is very low and must be explained by the considerable differences between both shores, differences that are attributed to the dichotomy between "us" and "them".
