Abstract

Summary form only given. The ribbon-like carbon film of /spl mu/m thickness and 10 mm width was prepared from mesophase pitch by an process similar to make the carbon fiber. The structure analysis of this film by TEM, SEM, X-ray diffraction, Pole figure technique and Raman spectroscopy measurements have revealed that there are layer structures parallel to the surface of the film and a fairly good orientation of polycrystalline along the normal direction in 002 plane. The ribbon like carbon film shows high electrical conductivity and high tensile strength with increasing of heat-treatment temperature. The preliminary electrochemical studies show that this film is a good candidate as the carbon electrode material in rechargeable lithium ion batteries.
