The results of a recent investigation of a high-gain microstrip reflectarray are presented. The substrate–superstrate resonance technique is used to increase the reflectarray gain. The measured gain is increased by 5 dB when the superstrate layer is added. Gain and radiation patterns are discussed. In order to use this technique in reflectarrays with phase-control elements, the analysis and discussion of the phase reflected by a particular unit cell made up of a slotted and grounded patch are presented. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
