Microwave energy can provide a novel standpoint in the synthesis of ceramic powders. This work reports the use of microwave energy in the synthesis of Ni-Zn ferrite (Ni 0.5 Zn 0.5 Fe 2 O 4 ) powders by combustion reaction (MWCR). The comparison with powders obtained by conventional combustion reaction was accomplished. XRD, BET, SEM, and helium pycnometer characterized the as-prepared powders. Ni-Zn ferrite prepared by MWCR process can easily yield well-crystallized particles with a large surface area such as 14,5 m 2 /g. Results obtained in this study showed that microwave-assisted combustion reaction (MWCR) is reliable for producing pure and crystalline Ni-Zn ferrite in only 4min.
