Magnetic response of continuous split ring structures at visible frequencies

Abstract

Split ring resonators (SRRs) have been widely studied as fundamental elements of metamaterials showing magnetic response. In order to search for metamaterials with negative refractive index, we studied the electromagnetic properties of structures with modified SRRs. We proposed a structure composed of continuous SRRs showing both negative μ and negative ε. Experimental results are supported by numerical results to show negative refractive index at visible frequencies.
