A QoE-based resource allocation scheme for multi-radio access in heterogeneous wireless network

Abstract

In heterogeneous wireless networks, it is common for service providers to employ multiple radio access technologies (RATs) to meet the requirements of the quality of services and as well to improve the system performance. In this paper, we propose an optimal resource allocation scheme for heterogeneous wireless networks by maximizing the users' quality of experience (QoE), which is a widely used subjective metric reflecting the users' satisfaction of the multimedia service. By taking two factors into consideration simultaneously: Rate Factor (RF) and Energy Factor (EF), we can measure the QoE of end-users effectively. An optimal radio resource allocation algorithm is developed for maximizing the users' QoE utility subject to the constraints of transmit bandwidth, power and data rate. The simulation results demonstrate the theoretical analysis.
