Abstract

Snowmelt-runoff models with a deterministic approach require measurements of the snow covered area provided by remote sensing. An index of the snow accumulation in a given winter reduces the ambiguity of the snow coverage when used for runoff volume forecasts and enables the depletion curves of snow covered areas to be extrapolated for operational short-term discharge forecasts.
