The paper is concerned with the problem of fault detection for continuous-time systems with distributed time delays. Using the standard form of the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, the robust fault detection algorithm is introduced, given the incidence of structured matrix variables in the linear matrix inequalities. The solutions are obtained through linear matrix inequalities formulation and the approach also unifies the reference residual model optimization in the observer-based fault detection design. The results, offering the sufficient conditions of the fault detection filter existence, are illustrated with a numerical example to note the effectiveness of the approach.
