The synthesis and properties of Mn(ω-NAP)2, Cu(ω-NAP)2, and Zn(ω-NAP)2(where ω-NAP is ω-nitroacetophenone) and those of a number of their adducts with water, ethanol, and pyridine, as well as of the bispyridine derivative of the iron(II) complex, Fe(ω-NAP)2,2py, have been studied in detail. As found for CoII and NiII, all the metals in these complexes show a marked tendency to achieve six-co-ordination either through intermolecular association processes or co-ordination of solvent molecules. X-Ray powder spectra, magnetic properties, visible reflectance and solution spectra, and molecular-weight measurements have been used to determine both electronic configuration and stereochemistry for all the studied complexes.
