Abstract UWB printed monopole antenna with embedded reconfigurable multiband frequency notch function is proposed. Frequency notch is achieved by using a ground‐plane slot. Lumped capacitors are added to miniaturize the slots and hence take advantages of adding more slots to reject more bands without increasing the overall size of the antenna. Added capacitors are also enhancing band rejection and introduce tunable capability. Reconfigurabiltiy is introduced in a way you can independently switch ON/OFF the band notches by mean of RF switches. Investigation on the effect of lumped capacitor is presented. Simulation results of S11 for different states and radiation patterns at different frequencies are also presented. Simulation results are verified with measurements. The commercial CST Microwave Studio 5 is used for simulations and performance optimizations. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
