Design and development of balanced antipodal Vivaldi antenna for phased array antenna applications

Abstract

This paper describes a balanced antipodal Vivaldi antenna on RT-duriod substrate for the operating frequency range of 6–18 GHz. The proposed antenna is showing superior performance over conventional antennas with high gain of 4–9 dBi, high directivity and symmetrical E-plane and H-plane characteristics which makes this antenna suitable for wide use in broadband and ultra wideband applications. This paper presents the return loss, input impedance, radiation patterns, VSWR, E-field, H-field and current distribution using the commercial Ansoft HFSS software.
