Reconfigurable beam steering U-slot patch antenna with high gain for a wireless headset

Abstract

본 논문은 빔 스티어링이 가능하고 높은 이득을 갖는 무선 헤드셋용 패치안테나에 관한 것이다. 헤드셋 내부에 위치하는 기존의 무선통신용 안테나는 전방향으로 방사하기 때문에 두부에 미치는 영향이 크므로 이를 개선하기 위해 본 안테나를 제안하였다. 제안된 안테나는 U-slot 구조로 구성되어 있고, FR-4기판에 제작되었다. 본 안테나는 2.37-2.5 GHz대역에서 동작하며 급전부와 패치부 사이의 임피던스매칭을 위해 테이퍼드(Tapered) 매칭 기법을 사용하였다. 빔 스티어링을 위해 DC 바이어스에 따라 ON/OFF되는 두 개의 핀 다이오드를 사용하였다. 이로써 안테나는 최대 빔 방향이 YZ-평면의 $0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $330^{\circ}$에서 세 가지 상태($S_0$, $S_1$, $S_2$)를 갖는다. 측정된 최대 이득은 헤드셋 내부에 장착 되었을때 4.22-5.15 dBi 이다. 제작된 안테나는 무선통신모듈이 장착된 헤드셋과 연결하여 효율적인 무선통신이 가능하다. This paper presents reconfigurable beam steering patch antenna with high gain for a wireless headset. Because existing antenna for wireless communication in headsets has an omni-directional radiation pattern, it has a deleterious effect in the vicinity of the human head. To reduce this effect, this paper proposed an antenna comprised of a U-slot and manufactured on a FR-4 substrate. The antenna operating at the 2.37-2.5 GHz band used a tapered matching method to match the impedance between the feed part and patch part. To implement the beam steering capability, the antenna used two PIN diodes. Using PIN diodes, the antenna presented three states ($S_0$, $S_1$ and $S_2$) in the maximum beam directions of the YZ-plane ($0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$ and $330^{\circ}$, respectively). The peak gains of the antenna in the headset were 4.22-5.15 dBi. The fabricated antenna could communicate efficiently with a wireless headset.
