The design and fabrication of a large area, planar fiber optic acoustic velocity sensor is reported. The device is based upon exploiting the optical fiber’s response to acceleration induced strains and by designing specific jackets which suppress the fiber sensor’s response to acoustic pressure. The broadband response to acceleration and the response to pseudostatic pressure changes were measured. These results confirm the efficacy of the concept and design.
