An new hybrid algorithm to solve non convex economic load dispatch problem

Abstract

The economic load dispatch (ELD) is an important optimization task to decide the generation schedule to overcome the increasing demand in the current scenario. In ELD the thermal generating units are to be allocated efficiently to reduce the fuel cost of operation in power system. This paper explains a new optimization technique Efficient Hybrid Simulated Annealing Algorithm (EHSA) for both convex and non convex ELD problem. The mutation operator of Differential evolution is used in particle swarm optimization to improve its performance and it is hybridized with simulated annealing to get EHSA technique. The proposed methodology is implemented for economic dispatch problem by considering the constraints such as generator constraints, transmission loss, ramp rate limits and prohibited operating zones. This method is experimented on a 6 units test system to get an optimized result. By using this optimization algorithm we obtain a minimum operating cost with minimum transmission loss and better convergence speed.
