Multiparameter radar techniques for rainfall

Abstract

Rainfall rate measurements by weather radar provide important information for many human activities. In fact the use of the radar allows a high temporal and spatial resolution of the precipitation. In addition measurements on a large scale are only possible by a radar system. The main radar meteorology applications are in hydrology, agriculture, air traffic control and telecommunication. For these studies it is important to know the rainfall rate. Different techniques can be applied to extract this parameter; some of these are analysed and the relevant features described.
