A modified fractal antenna for multiband applications

Abstract

A planar Sierpinski fractal antenna for multiband applications is proposed, designed, simulated and tested. The slotted ground plane and the perturbed Sierpinski fractal patch are employed to achieve the desired wideband characteristics. The implemented antenna including the ground plane has a total dimension of 24×14×0.8mm 3 . The measured 10-db return loss bandwidth is 2.55–2.8GHz(54%), 4.9–5.3GHz(56%),6.4–9.8GHz(59%),9.8–12GHz(48%) which cover the satellite DMB/C/X bands. The proposed antenna can also be used for smart antenna systems. The simulated return loss, radiation patterns and gain of the proposed antenna are presented.
