One of the biggest problems in the world is environmental pollution, advancing at an accelerated pace as a result of industrial and technological development demanded by the population increase. (www.hogarverde.com). In the same way, we know that a high risk factor are the polluting oils, knowing that a drop of them can contaminate 1000 liters of water. (www.etapa.net.ec). In my study I analyzed the system of collection of used oils in San Cristobal Island. By using surveys, we can find community information about the quantities of oil that are being used in the island. From my research carried out from June 28 to July 14, it is known that in one month, about 142 vehicles are changing the engine oil and related with it are approximately 192 gallons of oil that are been used. The system of collection of these lubricants that are used today is somewhat deficient due to limited space available. Also the transportation costs of these lubricants to the mainland to go through a recycling process are high. Encouraging the community interest in the issue of recycling is of great importance, is our responsibility as good citizens.
