Recent range requirements to furnish optical data on test programs are requiring remote control and high dynamic tracking capabilities. The modern missile systems have become more dynamic, long range, dispense many types of ordnances, obtain higher altitudes, and are smaller in size making optical tracking a challenge for test ranges. This has made manual acquisition difficult for data collection. To meet this challenge White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) has developed the Multi-Mode Automatic Tracking System (MATS), relying on a combination of remote control, automatic tracking, networking, and long auto focus lenses.
