This paper analyzes the deployment of urban development strategies based on the promotion of renewal processesin central areas, in the period 1996-2011, in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. It is established that during thisperiod an urban development regime was formed, it drove forms of entrepreneurship that tended to commodify urbanspace, seeking to raise capital willing to invest in the renewal of core areas, regardless of the adverse socioeconomiceffects or impacts in terms of conservation of architectural heritage. In this context, public interventions in the periodwere designed to generate economic conditions for urban renewal in selected areas for this purpose. The articlediscusses some of the main interventions in the neighborhoods east of the city of Buenos Aires, from statistical dataand official documents.
