Heterogeneous photo-fenton oxidation of sodium pentachlorophenate using iron loaded Y zeolite as a catalyst

Abstract

The heterogeneous photo-Fenton-type oxidation of sodium pentachlorophenate (PCP-Na) has been studied in this paper using artificial ultraviolet as a light source. Iron loaded Y zeolite has been used as a heterogeneous catalyst in the process. The effects of pH, illumination time, concentration of H2O2, quality of iron loaded Y type molecular sieve and initial concentration of PCP-Na on the degradation rate of PCP-Na has been investigated. The optimal operational parameters were found as follows: 0.2 g iron loaded Y zeolite, 50 µg/ml H2O2, 20 µg/mL PCP-Na, 90 min illumination of UV, pH (3.07–11.93) of the solution had less effect in the oxidation. The conclusions of the study had solved the problems of reduction of optical efficiency, the difficulty to analyze pentachlorophenol and inducting new problem in photo-Fenton-type oxidation system.
