Magnetic anisotropy induced by cold rolling was measured for single crystals of pure nickel and Ni-Co alloys containing about 5 and 20 at.% Co. The specimens were disks, the surface of which was parallel to {100} or {110}, and the direction of rolling was <110> or <100>, respectively. The induced magnetic anisotropy in Ni-Co alloys was not simply uniaxial but expressed by the superposition of uniaxial and four-fold terms. The order of magnitude of the anisotropy was 10 3 ergs/cm 3 . In pure nickel, no appreciable effect of cold-rolling was observed on the magnetic anisotropy. The discussions were made based on the “slip induced directional order” theory.
