Magneto-optical disk drives must perform well to read and write high-density media. In particular, the precise positioning of the focal point of the objective lens is essential. For attaining fine positioning, the vibration characteristics of the mechanism must be improved so that any mechanical resonance is suppressed or its frequency raised sufficiently higher than that of the control frequency band. This paper discusses two methods of suppressing vibration in magneto-optical disk drives. The vibration characteristics of the disk and spindle are also discussed.
