Abstract Dodecatungstophosphoric acid (TPA) is a very effective catalyst for the conversion of methanol into hydrocarbons. The effects of the reaction parameters, such as the temperature or the methanol partial pressure, were therefore examined. The kinetic features of the conversion over TPA are quite different from those over ZSM-5 zeolites. This difference is caused by the unique nature of the conversion over TPA; methanol molecules are sorbed and undergo the conversion in the bulk of solid TPA.
