Abstract Total yields and angular distributions of 380 keV gamma rays from the Cr 53 ( p , n γ ) Mn 53 reaction have been measured for proton energies below 2.5 MeV. The experimental results are in good agreement with predictions of the statistical compound‐nucleus theory. The angular distributions of 560 keV gamma rays upon the proton inelastic scattering on Cr 53 at E p = 2.3, 2.4 and 2.5 MeV are isotropic, which is commensurate with a ½ − assignment to the first excited state of Cr 53 .
