Abstract Characteristics of two different types of zinc oxide (ZnO)‐based biosensors using glucose oxidase are studied keeping medical applications in mind. One is a ZnO nanorod electrochemical electrode and the other is a ZnO‐based field‐effect transistor. Their fabrication process as well as the advantage for the application to integrated healthcare chips is also discussed in detail. The results obtained were in the preliminary stage yet; however, they might be encouraging for the enrolment of ZnO to the new application field of semiconductors. (© 2012 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
