The consistency of large values of the valence-band offset, \ensuremath{\Lambda}, in HgTe/CdTe superlattices with magneto-optical experiments is examined in light of data on a 90-\AA{} HgTe/40-\AA{} CdTe superlattice. The data are shown to be consistent with values \ensuremath{\Lambda}=400\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}40 meV rather than the much smaller cited values. This analysis, when considered with photoemission experiments, leaves intact the conclusion that HgTe/CdTe superlattices are best explained by a large offset.
