Case study: Maritime domain awareness

Abstract

We show how sharing of maritime information available from various data producers can strengthen marine domain awareness across agency boundaries and therefore enhance homeland security. This is based on a 2006-2007 pilot project implementing information sharing in the maritime domain which was documented in a Harvard Kennedy School case study. We emphasize those instances where complex systems engineering principles apply and list some lessons learned.
