Abstract

We report new measurements for two optical atomic clocks. The calcium clock uses freely expanding atoms, while the ytterbium clock uses lattice-confined atoms to suppress Doppler effects. We measure a fractional instability between the clocks of 4 × 10−16 for 100 s averaging time.
