Refractive Index Sensing Using Slow Light in Photonic Crystal Waveguides

Abstract

We present a compact integrated refractive index sensor using slow light in photonic crystal waveguides (PCWs). The PCWs are used in a Mach-Zahnder interferometer configuration and operated close to the edge of the mode-gap to achieve a compact design and high sensitivity.
