Abstract

Statistical characteristics of the grain boundary ensembles in two statically recrystallized samples of AISI 316L stainless steel differing in the mean grain size have been determined by means of transmission electron microscopy. These are: the proportion and the relative length of ∑3 boundaries, and the distributions of triple and multiple junctions of grain boundaries. The effect of recrystallization annealing on these characteristics of the grain boundary network is discussed.
