Abstract

AbstractLeadership is a skill that can be learned through professional development, mentoring, and leadership development programs. In Ontario, the Teacher Learning and Leadership Program (TLLP) helps educators develop their leadership skills through a Ministry of Education–funded project that addresses student learning needs in their classrooms. This article examines how the TLLP built the foundation for a teacher to lead beyond his classroom and continues to develop leadership skills in others across the province.Key words: developing leadersleadershipteacher learning Notes1 Students are assessed on a four-level scale, with most educators agreeing that Level 1 is 50–59%, Level 2 is 60–69%, Level 3 is 70–79%, and Level 4 is 80% and greater. The provincial standard is Level 3 or better. When students do not meet the standard on the provincial standardized test, this does not imply that they should fail a course, but rather that they do not have what is deemed to be a deep understanding of the course material.
