Nanostructured Carbons Prepared by Ultrasonic Spray Pyrolysis

Abstract

Porous carbon powders were prepared by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis of solutions of sucrose and sodium carbonate or bicarbonate. The decomposition of the carbonate salt evolves gases that create porosity in the carbon material without sacrificial templating agents. Microporous particles with a macroporous or hollow interior have been produced.
