I have read with interest your editorial entitled "A National Resident Matching Program for Dermatology" in the August 1981Archives(117:457-459). As one who has recently participated in this new matching program, I would like to point out several related problems in this program and a proposed solution. The editorial states that it is possible to conduct simultaneous interviews for G-1 and G-2 positions for those persons committed to dermatology while presumably still in their senior year of medical school. This is impossible in most situations, as G-1 (internship) interviews are generally held in September through December, while G-2 (residency) interviews for dermatology, with few exceptions, are not held until at least March of the following year. This inconvenience causes applicants who are still in medical school to double both their expenses and time involved in the interviewing process. Another problem with the new matching program is
