The chemicals industry and other related industries supply us \nwith a huge variety of essential products to everyday living. \nHowever, these industries have the potential to seriously \ndamage our environment. In the last decade, the scientific \ncommunity has witnessed a growing interest in environmental \nissues and the value of environmentally friendly \nenergy generation and chemical processes. The combination \nof chemical engineering tools with the findings of green \nchemists, biologists, and environmental scientists has allowed \nthe design of new processes for the manufacture of chemicals, \nfuels, and products with a much reduced environmental footprint. \nFurthermore, the developed environmentally benign \nalternative technologies have been proven to be economically \nsuperior and function as well as or better than more toxic \ntraditional options
