A combined high-voltage, high-energy pulse generator

Abstract

A novel high-voltage pulse generator, which can provide a rapid high-voltage, low-energy pulse followed by a high-energy capacitive discharge, is described. The generator simulates a high-voltage, high-energy pulsed power source without resorting to high-voltage, high-energy capacitors., The pulse-forming network is capable of generating a high-voltage pulse of up to 350 kV, and the capacitor bank can provide a high-current pulse of several tens of kilo-amperes.
