Abstract

The design of a dead-load tension-torsion creep-fracture testing device is described, which allows measurements in vacuo. The main advantages of this equipment are its low cost, simple and quick specimen change and the possibility of measuring a wide range of specimen shapes. Pre-tests showed that specimen bending and bearing friction are satisfactorily low. The usefulness of the device is demonstrated with creep-fracture tests on copper tubes.
