Mode Splitting in Whispering-Gallery-Mode Microresonators in Aquatic Environment

Abstract

We demonstrate scatterer-induced mode splitting in Whispering-Gallery-Mode resonators as a new sensing scheme in water. It is used to achieve detecting polystyrene particles of radii 50nm with a similar size as influenza A virus.
