A cost effective multi-services WDM-PON employing DPSK/FSK orthogonally modulated downstream and OOK remodulated upstream

Abstract

This paper proposed a cost effective scheme for WDM-PON construction, which used an orthogonal modulation format to carry multiple services in the optical line terminal (OLT) and used the re-modulation technology to centralize the light sources in the OLT. This scheme employed 1Gb/s downstream FSK signal and 10Gb/s downstream DPSK signal to carry multicast service and point-to-point data service separately. At optical network unit (ONU), the scheme separated part of downstream signal as carrier to be modulated by upstream OOK signal. A 20km transmission simulation of this scheme had been set and its performance had been analyzed.
